Formed in 1943, 12. ‘Hitlerjugend’ SS-Panzerdivision was created to be a symbol of the willingness of German youth to sacrifice itself to achieve total victory. Led by a core of tough veterans from the Eastern Front, Hitlerjugend established an outstanding reputation during its short life. On D-Day, Hitlerjugend was ideally placed to counterattack the invading British, halting their attacks time and time again.
